A clickable map of the world are often used to provide greater visibility and easy access for region specific information.

For example, corporate websites can use a clickable map to pinpoint their branch offices and satellite offices in different countries. An real estate website can use a clickable map of US (or UK) with covered areas (state or county) showing in different color, and display properties for sale and to let when visitor click on a particular area.

  

Clickable maps are widely used on websites in the tourism and travel industry, political bodies, education bodies, and various other organizations. Maps are created to display information base on political, commericial, geographical and other particular aspects.

A multi-level interactive map of the world can use color, labels, hover text or other visual effects to highlight selected continent, and allow users to further drill down to countries within the continent using simple mouse rollover, and then zoom into state level within a country.Special icons can be used to pinpoint a location or landmark.

In additional to geographic maps, a clickable map can also be created base on any image, so to help users to better understand a diagram (e.g. a floorplan, or a flowchart) by allowing them to click on (or simply rollover) a component in the graphic to see an explanation or an enlarged image.
